What are you most looking forward to this year in the Shoemaker Scholars? What is one thing you hope to accomplish?
This year I look forward to working with the other Shoemaker Scholars to support entrepreneurs at IU. I am also excited to become a part of the greater Shoemaker community and to build lasting relationships as a result. One thing I hope to accomplish is to show younger students another path forward to personal and professional success –– entrepreneurship can be an invaluable alternative for those who feel like they don’t belong in a traditional career pathway.
What innovative or entrepreneurial projects are you working on this year?
My experiences as a tutor have taught me the importance of providing less expensive tutoring options for students. I will continue offering personalized freelance tutoring to students across campus as well as students in my hometown. Over time, I anticipate scaling these operations up with the long-term goal of making supplementary education as affordable as possible for as many students as possible.
What’s one piece of advice you have for IU students with regard to innovation and entrepreneurship?
My biggest piece of advice for IU students is that entrepreneurship is a mindset, and there’s no better time to start than now. IU itself has so many business- and entrepreneurship-related resources to help students grow themselves and their businesses. And if no meaningful opportunity seems to present itself, that’s when you’re supposed to go out and create opportunities for yourself!
